Watching him toss a football with his dad, it seems everything is normal for seventh-grader David Gerfast. He has no pain and no alarming symptoms, but just a couple of weeks ago, No. 65 on the Rosemount Middle School football team took a big blow during a game.

“Somebody grabbed my face mask, and as I was trying to get up my back strained,” David said. He was done for the season.

His parents watched as pain went from bad to worse overnight, stretching from this back to his feet. A couple hospital visits later, they discovered those symptoms were unrelated to the real problem.

“They did the MRI and said good news… your spine looks great,” said David's mom Cindy However. “This is gonna scare you mom and dad…but we found a tumor in his neck.”
